Mercedes is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the owner of U and I Family Wellness. She has a fun, caring and energetic personality, and it is stamped all over her work. She has been supporting and providing therapy services to individuals and families in the communities of Chicago for over seven years.
Mercedes graduated with a Master of Social Service Administration degree from the University of Chicago, where she was trained as a clinical therapist with a focus in Family Systems and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies. In addition to the training she received at the University of Chicago, Mercedes pursued a specialization in couples therapy.
Amanda M. Burrell currently serves as a Corrections Assessment Specialist at the Illinois Department of Corrections. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and received her Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Prior to joining the Illinois DOC, Ms. Burrell briefly worked at Metropolitan Family Services as a Program supervisor. Amanda also worked for 12 years at the Cook County Department of Correction. In this role, she provided social and mental health services to the detained population. In her various roles at the Department of Corrections, her work focused on assisting clients with:identifying criminogenic thinking styles and cognitive distortions, regulating emotions, and altering behaviors.
When asked what drew her to the mental health field, she stated, “One of the many aspects that I enjoy most about this work is the constant opportunity to assist in providing hope to the, sometimes, hopeless.”
Amanda currently resides in Chicago Il. When she is not working, Amanda enjoys singing and spending time with her family and friends.
